Croatian beers and rakijas

Croatia is very proud of its beers, which are produces in several beers companies. The most frequently drunk are Ozujsko pivo and Kariovacko pivo, both of which are excellent. Ožujsko is the most popular beer in Croatia, with 10 bottles being consumed every second! It has been produced since 1893. The main factory is in Zagreb, and the company is Belgian-owned. The second one - Karlovačko is the second most popular beer in Croatia. It is also the national beer, due to the rapid marketing of the product after it was released.

The factory is located in the city of Karlovac, which is where it gets its name. Foreign beers tend to be more expensive, so unless you have a preference for a particular foreign beer you’ll do no wrong choosing Croatian. Apart from this two kind of beers there is also Pan, which is actually my favorite one. Pan is a Croatian lager beer, which is produced by Carlsberg Croatia. If you like any other Carlsberg beer you will like Pan as well.

Finally apart of already mentioned alcohol drinks you must try Rakija. “The water of life”-  Rakija  can be made out of anything!  Crazy Croatians can make it even from a truffle! I’ve had ones Rakijas made from watermelon, it was extremely good J However the most popular Rakijas are made rather from simple components.  When it’s made from a base of plums is Slivovica, from grapes is Loza, from herbs is Travarica, from honey Medica (my favorite one), from pear Viljamovka or from walnuts Orahovica.

Cheers: Zivjeli!
