Croatian music Part 2

Apart from pop, rock, jazz, and other kind of music singing in all countries, Croatia created its own, special type of music called klapa music (cr. Klapska glazba). The klapa music is a form of traditional a cappella singing mostly in Dalmatia region, however nowadays it can be sing in all coast regions or islands. The word klapa translates as "a group of friends" and traces its roots to littoral church singing. What is the most specific in that kind of music is that, it is sing only by men. It is very difficult to become a part of such a group, but when someone becomes a member it is a great honor for him and his family. The klapa group has a specify rules of singing voices, it consists of a first tenor, a second tenor, a baritone, and a bass. Although it is possible to double all the voices apart from the first tenor. Although klapa is a cappella music, on occasion it is possible to add a gentle guitar and a mandolin. I think that it is quite a amazing  thing that the klapa tradition is still very much alive, with new songs composed and festivals held. One of festival like this is The Festival of the Dalmatian Klapas in Omiš is the best known music festival and has a long tradition in Klapa music.

Klapa  Šufit is my favourite one :) I hope you will like them as well :)

This is their most popular klapa song Do not hurt my love, it is incredibly beautiful :)

That one is the first klapa song which I heard in my life and I consider it as the best one!

What do you think about such kind of music?

Croatian music Part 1

As I wrote in the last post I am going to introduce you with Croatian music. This post will focuse on the most popular Croatian singer and the next one on national Croatian music.

The most popular singer, no1 star in Croatia is Severina. She is singing dance/pop music and I think we can compare her with our Doda several years ago. However Doda is not popular in Poland any more, Severina is well known not only in Croatia but also in all Balcan territory. Her pictures and songs are telling everything :) I have to add that I adore her and her songs :)

One of the most popular groups in Croatia is Prljavo Kazaliste (ang. Dirty Theatre). They were more popular during 90. like our T-Love or Lady Pank, but nowadays they are well known as well. They music is rather rock one and lyric of their songs know just everyone.

I thing that every country has it owns never-ending singer, who is known by every generation. We have Maryla Rodowicz and Krzysztof Krawczyk and Croatia has Oliver Dragijević. His songs are mostly about love, see and Dalmatia region.

Lazy, rainy Sunday

Today’s Sunday do not convince us to go anywhere out, day is very dark and depresing…Wind, rain, than rain and wind…In such a day my mood is not in the highest level so I try to improve it as fast as possible. One of the best way to do it is listening to my favorite music, watching pictures of Zadar or both at the same time. On the Internet we can find many of good short movies which are really qualify and contain gorgeous pictures of Zadar.

This is one of the best set of Zadar’s pictures with very pleasant music in the background.
The name of the song is
„Grad U Moru”(City in the see), by Tomislav Bralic.
I hope it makes your day a little bit better :)

P.S. In the next post I will familiarize you with Croatian music in a deeper extend.

Christmas time

Well I guess that this days we all are preparing somehow for Christmas.  For me Christmas is a once-a-year celebration surrounded by such a magical atmosphere like no other. It comes with more bells and whistles, smell of Christmas tree and gingerbread than any other holiday, and brings an enormous amount of joy. Thanks to the Christmas decorations which can be seen in small and big cities we can really feel the Christmas atmosphere. This magical atmosphere is also present in Zadar. Unfortunately I did not experience it myself (next year for sure!) but my friend send my some picture of Zadar full of enormous amount of colorful lights, decorations and Christmas trees of course. In my opinion town looks totally different than it used to look during summer period of time. The town which for many people is associated only with summer and see in now totally different. However, is still looks remarkable.

Please have a look at Christmas pictures of Zadar and enjoy!

Santa Claus is coming to town!

Did all of you were visit by Santa Claus? Did you get some nice gift? I do not know what is your feeling, but for me, this year 6th of December was rather a hot day. When I was a child I could not imagine a 6th of December without snow. How the Santa will come? His sledge will not work without snow! Well, some kids do not have such a dilemma because in their towns there is hardly ever snow on 6th of December. This situation is common in Zadar. When I check the forecast two days ago, the temperature there was between 10-12 degrees, above 0 of course :)

Kids in Zadar believe in Santa as well as we, and this year he visited them in their city with his best friend ;) My friend from Zadar sent me some photos, which she made on Saturday, and I share them with you.. As we can see it was a really hot and sunny day. I wish it was the same in Poznan! Do you recognize this place? It is a People’s square of course, a main one in Zadar. I do not know if you agree, but photos looks strange for me – as if Santa come in the summer (why not actually :p). However, Zadar every year prepares for the youngest citizens some sweet surprise on this day and I like this idea a lot!

Let's have walk around Zadar!

Well last few posts I was describing the main worth-seeing places in Zadar, but I think it is more interesting to see them all on the film. Some time ago I found the film on youtube where traveller - Burris with his camra have a walk around Zadar. He started  his walk exactly from the same place where I started my story about Zadar. I hope that this enable you to cutch up with Zadar.

Of course, there is many films like this in the Internet but this one I particulary recomend. Firstly, this short movie show Zadar in the same shape as I remember it - it its full beauty with all important places. Secondly the guy who made this film is describing all places in a very nice way and  is quite funny.

Apart from film about Zadar Burris on his channel in youtube has films about Dubrovnik and Zagreb.Anyway, I highly recomend this guy fims, noo only about croatia :)

I love this shot movie, it makes me feel as if I am in Zadar again:) Enjoy watching the film!
